British American Tobacco (BAT) Bangladesh Company on Sunday donated Tk 8.82 crore, a part of the profit it has made last year, to Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation (BLWF).
A delegation led by Golam Mainuddin, Chairman of the company, handed over a cheque to Md Mujibul Haque, State Minister for Labour and Employment, at his secretariat office.Mujibul Haque said that we still have around Tk 300 crore in the fund of the foundation after disbursing Tk 22 crore among the labourers.
Chunnu further said Taka two lakh is given to the families of each laborer died in workplace, Taka three lakh is given to children of any laborer studying in medical, engineering and agricultural university and Taka 50 thousand is given to the children studying in public university.
He announced that if any worker dies in work place, his or her family will get Tk two lakh. As per the Labour Law (Amendment) 2013, the financial institutions, which belong to more than Tk two crore as capital, have to contribute five percent of their annual net profits for the welfare of workers.
Of the five percent, four portions are for their own workers, half portion for their own workers’ labour welfare fund and the rest half for the fund of BLWF.
Secretary of the Ministry, Afroza Khan, Director General of BLWF, Dr Anisul Awal, Chief of Human Rights Division at British American Tobacco Company, Rumana Rahman were present on the occasion.
