Delay in announcement of the new committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has frustrated the key post aspirants of the student wing of the ruling Awami League (AL).
A number of aspirants, wishing not to be named, told the daily sun that they are frustrated due to ‘mysterious’ delay in announcement of the new committee. They hoped that the AL chief would pick up the leaders considering their dedication, boldness and family background ahead of the crucial national elections likely to be held by the end of this year.
The 29th BCL council was held on May 11 and 12 at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
The AL high-command is taking time to declare the new committee of the BCL central body, which is expected to be picked up by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the ruling AL.
Aspirants of the key posts are passing a ‘tense period’ due to ‘unusual’ delay in announcement of the new committee. Most of the aspirants are in darkness about their fate in the upcoming committee.
However, they are hopeful that there would be no influence of much-talked-about syndicate in formation of the new central committee as the party chief would award posts to dedicated and activists having clean image by scrutinising details of the aspirants.
Aspirants and their followers are also frustrated, because a neo-syndicate is spreading the names of their favourites as the probable leaders. The syndicate has become very active ahead of announcement of the new committee. The neo-syndicate is allegedly trying to influence the party high-command for awarding the two key posts –president and general secretary—bypassing the aspirants from Faridpur and Barisal and other dedicated popular faces.
Vested quarters are also trying to influence the decision-makers for relaxing the age-limit of the student leaders to create an opportunity for their favourites.
Some aspirants whose names were heard as the probable leaders just a few days ago are also in utter frustration due to the delay in announcement of the new BCL committee. Day-to-day rumour about the upcoming committee also frustrates them.
Many think that controversial candidates and intruders might be included in the new committee of the student body if the high command picks up new faces for the key posts just to bypass regionalism and create new demography of leadership.
In recent years, intruders from Shibir and Chhatra Dal got some key posts in the BCL committee due to experiment and motto of the high-command to award posts to new faces.
The intruders disheartened BCL activists as they have weakened the strength of the ruling party’s student wing and tarnished the image of the government.
