Some 2123 people were killed while 5558 others were injured in as many as 1871 road accidents across the country in the first four months of the year, reports UNB.
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, a passengers’ welfare association came up with this statistics on Monday.After monitoring the local, regional and online newspapers and television channels, the association made the report. According to the report, some 206 people, who sustained injuries in separate road crashes during January-April, 2018 period, have been succumbed to their injuries in different hospitals.
At least 1979 people were killed and 4727 others were injured in 1765 road accidents across the country during the correspondent period of 2017, the report said.
The numbers of road accidents have increased by 1.06 percent than the previous year while the number of dead and injured ones increased in 1.44 percent and 8.31 percent respectively.
The association recommended for taking steps to reduce the casualties and damages on emergency basis after identifying the road accidents as national problem.
