Panchagarh farmers eye bumper Boro production

PANCHAGARH: Farmers are expecting bumper Boro paddy yield in the district due to favorable climatic condition during this season while the paddy harvesting has just started, reports BSS.

The Boro paddy fields are covered with golden colour and farmers are eagerly waiting to harvest their yields.

The overall weather condition for Boro paddy has favorable till now. The farmers and the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) hope that the weather would have remain favorable for harvesting paddy, DAE officials said.

They said around 23,000 hectares of arable land has been brought under Boro cultivation this year with a production target of 3,35,000 metric tonnes of rice.

The DAE officials also said the bumper production of Boro paddy is being expected in the district due to favorable weather condition, adequate supply of agriculture inputs and smooth power supply.

The DAE supplied quality Boro seeds, fertilisers and others agriculture inputs among the farmers at a cost of free and it trained farmers on the use of modern technology in Boro framing to help them get bumper paddy production.

Sunil Kumar of sadar upazila said he cultivated Boro paddy on three bighas of land and expected that he would be able to get at least 60 maunds paddy from his land.

Boro paddy harvesting will start in full-swing here within next 15 days, he said.
