ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia observed 48th Independence Day and National Day on the campus to pay tributes to the martyrs and valiant sons who laid down their live for country’s independent in 1971.
To make the day, IU vice chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari hoisted national flag and treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha hoisted the university flag atop of the university administrative building around 8:00am, as per the declaration.Around 10:00am, the teachers, officers, staff and students of the university brought out a colorful rally led by its vice chancellor and the rally was ended at university central monument after parading main thoroughfares on the campus wile IU registrar in charge SM Abdul Latif, proctor Prof Dr M Mahbubar Rahman, students advisor Prof Dr Rezwanul Islam, deans, chairman and activists of many political, voluntary and cultural organizations were took part at the rally.
IU VC, Treasurer placed floral wreath from the university authorities while different organizations including IU Teachers Association, Bangabandhu Parisad, Shapla Forum, IU BCL unit, halls, IU Journalist Association, Durber Bangladesh, Consumer Youth, Tarunno, IU Rover Scout Group placed floral wreath and offered prayer to pay respect to the three million martyrs and valiant sons who lied down their lives during the war of liberation.
Meanwhile, a discussion on Independence Day and cultural functions was held at Jatir Pita Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall.
University vice chancellor Prof Dr M Haurn-Ur-Rashid Askari addressed here as the chief guest and inaugurated a website of the hall while treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha and director of IU Computer center Prof Dr Poresh Chandra Barman present at the programme as the special guest with provost of the hall Prof Dr Shahdath Hossain Azad in the chair.
Mustafa Zubayer Alam, IU president conduct the programme while IU BCL unit secretary Jewel Rana Halim spoke out here and over 500 teachers, students and BCL activists of the hall were took part at the discussion programme.
Earlier, Motahar Hossain, deputy registrar of university establishment office awarded as freedom fighter by the university vice chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari at the office in the morning.
