Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (CG) in a drive arrested nine fishermen and recovered 195 maund of jatka (hilsa fry) from a trawler in the Meghna river in Barisal early Saturday.
Lieutenant Commander Abdullah Al Maruf, Assistant Director (Detective) of Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters, said, “Acting on a tip-off, members of South Zone CG Station Barisal conducted an operation at Dhankhola area adjacent to Barisal Meghna river.”
“During the drive, they seized the jatka from a trawler and detained the fishermen.
The estimated value of the seized jatka and boat is around Tk 28.30 lakh,” he added.
Later, the seized jatka was distributed among the orphan and the poor people in presence of executive magistrates, fisheries officers and journalists..
