Four arrested in Ctg for ‘abducting’ schoolboy

CHITTAGONG: Police arrested four adolescents on charge of abducting a schoolboy from different areas in the city on Sunday.

The arrestees aged around 18 are Md Muktadir Rahman Opi, Shakil, A Al Kibria alias Tushar, and Shaheed Aj Moin Siam.  

Of them, Shakil and Tushar are students of intermediate level, Opi an SSC examine while Siam a class-X student.

The victim is identified as Mehedhi Hasan Mistad, 12, a class-VII student of the city’s Central School and College.

Sources said the adolescents abducted Mehedhi from in front of Shuvopur Bus Stand while he was returning to residence after attending his ‘Day-care’ school at around 8:00pm.

Later, the abductors took away the schoolboy behind a nursery of Collegiate School in the same area and beat him mercilessly.

Meanwhile, the abductors contacted with the victim’s family over mobile phone and demanded Tk 10 lakh as ransom, the sources said.

At one stage of beating, Mehedhi lost sense while the abductors also tried to strangle him with rope. They left Mehedhi there thinking him dead. 

After recovery of sense, Mehedhi returned to residence at around 11:00pm and shared the matter with the family members, they said.

Later, the victim’s father Abdul Jalil informed the matter to the concerned police station.            

Police, in association with the victim’s family to lure them of paying the ransom, brought three of them tactfully and arrested from the city’s Matarbari Balu Math area at around 3:00am, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nezam Uddin of Sadarghat Police Station. 

Acting on their statements, police also arrested rest one from his residence in the same area at around 5:00am, he said. In the primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that they abducted Mehedhi for ransom, the OC said.

A case was filed accusing the arrestees with the concerned police station in this connection, he said, adding that the arrestees will be produced before court today (Monday).
