HONG KONG: Hong Kong stocks fell back soon after the open on Wednesday as the resignation of Donald Trump's pro-trade economic advisor revived fears the president will embark on a more protectionist drive.

The Hang Seng Index slipped 0.61 percent, or 186.96 points, to 30,323.77, reports AFP.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was flat, inching down 0.78 points to 3,288.86, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, slipped 0.16 percent, or 2.89 points, to 1,849.33.
