With autocratic dominance, Dhaka Abahani Ltd bulldozed over Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd by 112 runs in their Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur on Monday.
In their quest to topple the 260-run target set by Abahani, Mohammedan gave up the fight on the face of a disciplined and lethal bowling attack of the blues and slumped to 147 in 30.4 overs.With this thumping win, Abahani cemented their top spot in the points table with 12 points with an unbeaten track record. Mashrafe Mortaza set the tone for the triumph, bagging wickets of Jony Talukder, Mohammedan skipper Shamsur Rahman and Rony Talukder - within 11.3 overs.
Irfan Sukkur (40) was the top scorer in Mohammedan innings. He paired with Raqibul Hasan (28) in a bid to stage a comeback but their effort was in vain. The last man standing for Mohammedan, Raqibul, fell to Taskin Ahmed, leaving Mohammedan in a deep trouble.
Abahani star bowlers Mehedi Hasan Miraz and pacer Mashrafe shared three Mohammedan wickets each conceding 28 and 37 runs respectively. They were well supported by Manpreet Gony who bagged two wickets giving away only 25 runs.
Earlier, Abahani rode on Anamul Haque and Nasir Hossain’s brilliant half centuries, scored a competitive total of 259 runs before they were bowled out by Mohammedan in 49.4 overs, after they were invited to bat first by Mohammedan.
Meanwhile, the batsmen-friendly track of Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah down poured her grace on Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club courtesy of a magnificent century by Fazle Mahmud as Prime Doleshwar edged past Sheikh Jamal by 56 runs.
Mahmud amassed a massive 120-run off 101-balls with five boundaries and six over boundaries along with Zohaib Khan’s quick-fire 38 runs helped Prime post 293 runs for 6 wickets.Sheikh Jamal bowler Robiul Haque managed two wickets for 36 runs. Jamal neevreply, Sheikh Jamal fell short as they were all out for 237 in 45 overs, despite a fighting century by their skipper Nurul Hasan.
Sheikh Jamal skipper Nurul Hasan 128-ball 100 run was not enough for the salvation of his side. His batting extravaganza featured 7 fours and a single six.
But the fight was a lone one for Nurul as only 4 of Jamal batsmen managed to reach double digits. Hasanuzzaman (36), Elias Sunny (31) and Ziaur Rahman (17) were the other three batsmen.
Farhad Reza caused most of the damage as he devoured 4 Jamal wickets for 56 runs while Arafat Sunny managed to trap two for 56.
Over at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan Ground 3 in Savar, Mohammad Sharif produced a brilliant hat-trick to end the day with six wickets as he fuelled Legends of Rupganj DPL triumph over a feeble Gazi Group Cricketers by five-wickets.
Put to bat first by Rupganj, Gazi Group were folded at a small total of 190 in 32.4 overs. Nadif Chowdhury top scored with 75 runs off 61-ball laced with two boundaries and five over boundaries while Zaker Ali contributed 37. Gazi Group lost as many as batsmen in between 0 to 22 runs.
Apart from Mohammad Sharif’s six wickets haul Mohammad Shahid claimed three wickets giving away 32 runs. In reply, Rupganj slipped to 4 for 86 to chase the target but a solid 102- run fifth wicket stand between Parvez Rasool (61 n.o) and Nazmul Hossain Milon (38) ensured Rupganj’s victory with five balls to spare.
