CHITTAGONG: Sixteen students and a teacher of two schools were arrested and 15 others expelled on charges  of their involvement with question paper leakage of physics examination in the city and district on Tuesday.

The arrested students were also expelled from the examination.

Of the total persons, 24 students and the teacher were from Patiya Ideal High School and College under Patiya upazila and seven other students from three schools of Fatikchhari upazila in the district.

Sources said a total of 56 SSC examinees of Science and Commerce groups from Patiya Ideal High School and College came to the city by a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan to attend their scheduled examinations at around 9:00am.

They were examinees of Bangladesh Mohila Samity (BAWA) Girls’ School and College in the city’s Dampara area.

On information, a team of the district administration led by Executive Magistrate Syed Morad Ali rushed to the spot and found the students engaged in solving multiple choice questions (MCQ) in their mobile devices inside the bus parked around 150 meter away from the examination centre.

The team immediately detained the students and started investigating into the matter.

Chittagong district Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Education and ICT) Md Habibur Rahman told the daily sun that they allowed the students to sit for the examination under their supervision.

Later, they found the leaked question paper identical to the ‘kha set’ of Tuesday’s original multiple choice questions (MCQ), he said.

After an investigation and interrogation nine students who were carrying the mobile devices and a teacher of the school accompanying the students were arrested, he said.

Of the rest, 15 students were also expelled and 32 students from the Commerce group were released as they had no involvement with the incident, said ADC Habib.
