Orbis International Director (Monitoring and Evaluation) Arlene Lozano said Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Centre (CEITC) is well-known across the globe for its role in producing skilled manpower through providing training to nurses and biomedical technicians of this sector.
She said this while addressing a view exchange meeting at the CEITC Seminar Hall in the port city on Monday.CEITC Managing Trustee and renowned Eye Specialist Dr Rabiul Husian put up different aspects of services of the hospital at the meeting.
Orbis Bangladesh Project Director (Programme) Md Alauddin, Senior Manager (Monitoring and Evaluation) Mohammad Awlad Hossain, Institute of Community Ophthalmology Director Professor Dr Khurshid Alam and Ahmedur Rahman Research Centre Joint Director Professor Dr Mohammad Muniruzzamn Osmani were present at the meeting among others.
Professor Rabiul in his speech said Orbis started extending its helping hands for expansion of eye care treatment since 2001.
“It is now possible to provide treatment to some five to eight lakh eye patients of different diseases through the vision centres,” he said.
Putting up cooperation of Orbis in extending the CEITC’s rural activities Dr Rabiul said three vision centres have been set up in Satkania and Mirsarai upazilas in Chittagong and Feni district.
Along with treatment, training for village doctors and school teachers are being carried out from the centres, said Rabiul.Lauding activities of the CEITC, Orbis Director Arlene said the hospital added a new dimension to the developed eye treatment and education with the help of Orbis.
She also assured of extending areas of services of Orbis at the CEITC in future.
