RAJSHAHI: Pro-BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami-backed teachers and employees of Rajshahi University on Monday once again formed a human chain on campus for second consecutive day protesting against the sentencing of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to five-year imprisonment and Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and four others to 10-year in Zia Orphanage Trust case.
They also demanded immediate unconditional release of the party chairperson, postponing the verdict and withdrawing of all the cases against the chairperson and senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman. They also declared to observe a sit-in-programme on Monday at 10:00am on the campus for two hours to press home their demands. Professor Mainuddin said that through canceling the caretaker government in parliament, the ruling government changed the democratic way of changing government through a fair voting.
“Now, the government is trying to destroy the opposition leaders, the opposition organisations one after another”, he also said.

“It appears to us that the verdict was just one of the plans of the ruling government to keep the opposition party outside of the election”, he added.
The speakers also vowed to continue their programmes if the government did not pay head to their demands.
Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi and Muktijoddhe Bishwashi Shikkhok Forum’s convener Professor Enamul Hauqe, RU former vice-chancellor Professor Mamunul Keramot, Teacher’s Forum’s president KBM Mahbubur Rahman, among others, spoke at the human chain.
