Bangladesh ace all-rounder rounder Shakib Al Hasan booked his place in the IPL 2018 auctions in the ‘Marquee’ player list.
With INR 2 crore as the highest reserve price in Marquee player list, 36 cricketers, including 13 Indians, have opted for the top bracket. Shakib claimed his place along with R Ashwin, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Glenn Maxwell, Joe Root, Mitchell Starc, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard - each priced at INR 2 crore - will set the tone as an intense battle is set to follow.The much-anticipated IPL 2018 player auction list is out headlining the big pool of 578 players that will go under the hammer on January 27-28 in Bengaluru.
With 18 players retained, 182 slots are up for grabs in the upcoming auction, BCCI release stated.
Bowling sensation Mustafizur Rahman is the second highest place as Bangladeshi players as he is in 56th in the full list which included all 578 players while Bangladeshi southpaw opener Tamim Iqbal is 193rd in the 578-player list.
Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman and Abul Hasan Raju also reserved their places in the IPL auction this year. Bangladesh were sent 8-member list to IPL authority. But unfortunately Bangladesh all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Litton Kumar Das were dropped from the final list.
Mustafiz will get INR 1crore while Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman and Abul Hasan Raju will be paid INR 50 lakh.
The number one all-rounder Shakib now in prolific form in the ongoing tri-nation series, picking up player-of-match awards in both the games so far. He also achieved his personal landmark of 10,000 runs in all three formats combined when he scored 67 against Sri Lanka of Bangladesh’s second match in the series.Earlier, on Saturday, the IPL announced the final auction pool, having trimmed the original 1122 list by half. The auction pool has been split into different sets based on the area of expertise of the player. The auction will begin with the two sets of marquee players going up for bidding, source cricket website.
The auction will begin with marquee players’ list followed by capped players — in the order of batsmen, all-rounders, wicket-keepers, fast bowlers and spinners.
Ashwin has been placed at the top of the list of Marquee players while Shakib is 11th on the list.
A total of 62 capped Indians and 298 uncapped Indian cricketers will vie for the available slots with 182 capped overseas cricketers, 34 uncapped overseas players and 2 cricketers from Associate Nations.
“A lot of strategizing and number-crunching is involved before a cricketer is picked at the IPL Player Auction. The dynamic nature of the auction makes it unpredictable and exciting,” IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla said in a release, reports Times of India.
