Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) hosted the 8th Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA) International Conference titled “Expanding Horizons in English Language Education” on its campus in the capital’s Basundhara Residential Area recently.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat was present at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day event as the chief guest while Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of IUB, as the special guest, says a press release.
Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of IUB Dr Mahbub Alam, BELTA President Harunur Rashid Khan, Conference Chair Dr Arifa Rahman and Head of English Department of IUB Towhid Bin Muzaffar, among others, spoke on the occasion.
The keynote paper of the conference was presented by internationally reputed language educator Dr Christine Coombe.
There were 10 plenary and featured presentations made by a multi-dimensional group of international and national speakers. A total of 81 concurrent papers were presented at the programme while 10 workshops, and 5 colloquia and panel discussions took place during the conference.
Around 450 delegates and participants from Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia took part in the three-day event held from Friday to Sunday..
