A commemorative programme highlighting the outstanding contributions of Comrade Muhammad Takiullah in the historic language movement was held in the capital on Friday.
Held at Mukti Bhaban in the capital’s Paltan area, the event was attended by the Communist Party Bangladesh (CPB) president Mujahidul Islam Selim as the chief guest.
Poet Razu Alauddin, publisher of Comrade Takiullah’s biography, Bangladesh Women Journalist Kendra vice-president Dil Monwara Monu and Dainik Amader Somoy feature editor Shanta Maria were present on the occasion. Speakers said that Comrade Takiullah had raised his voice against injustice and repression throughout his life and immensely contributed to the national freedom movement.
They raised a demand for naming a road after him and awarding Ekushey Padak to him posthumously.
Comrade Takiullah was the fourth son of legendary Bengali linguist Dr Muhammad Shahidullah. He has reformed Bangla calendar ‘Promita Bangla Barshapanji’, which is being followed in Bangladesh in present times. He holds the copyright of rare snapshots of language movement at its initial period in 1948.
