CHITTAGONG: Members of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested 11 fake DB men from different areas of the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The arrestees are identified as Haradhan Das, 37, Md Mamun Uddin alias Mamun, 35, Md Kawsar Hamid, 31, Md Jahedul Ajam, 35, Md Shahed Rana, 31, Md Shawkat Ali alias Manik, 32, Selim Mahmud alias Selim, 44, Rejaul Karim, 51, Md Rubel, 30, Md Jasedul Karim alias Babul, 35, and Md Masud, 28.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Public Relations) Md Akram Hossain of the CMP said a group of criminals identifying themselves as DB men snatched Tk 167,000, two mobile phones and other valuables from Chittagong City College student Md Imtiaj Uddin Emon from the city’s Love Lane area on December 28.
Later, the victim lodged a verbal complaint with the DB office on Tuesday.
He also filed a case with the city’s Kotwali Police Station in this connection, said ADC Akram.
Following the case, DB men carried out drives in different areas of the city from 2:00pm on Tuesday to 10:30am Wednesday and arrested the accused, he said.
The DB men also recovered a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, two motorbikes, one wireless set, a pair of handcuffs, two mobile phones, Tk 32,500 and other items used for committing crimes like snatching and robbery from their possessions.
A case was filed accusing the arrestees with the police station in this connection, ADC Akram added.
