The two-day Teer ninth National Archery Championship-2018, organised by Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) and sponsored by City Group, began at the Archery Training Center, Martyr Ahasanullah Master Stadium in Gazipur on Wednesday.
On the first day of the competition, Md Ruman Sana of Bangladesh Ansar claimed new national record in men’s singles recurve division scoring 654. He surpassed his own previous record of 652.
The recurve division of men and compound division of women quarter-finals will be held today at the same venue.
In men’s quarter-finals, Ruman Sana will play against Prodeep Chakma, Md Hakim Ahmed Rubel will meet Md Ibrahim Rezwan, Sheikh Sajib will face Md Sanwar Hossain and Md Tamimul Islam will take on Md Abdullah Al Mamun.
In women quarter-finals, Roksana Akter will meet Mahmuda Akter, Suma Biswas will take on Bipasha Akter, Bonna Akter will face Kaneej Fatima and Susmita Banik will play against Shiuli Akter.
Earlier on yesterday, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Ministry Zahid Ahsan Russell MP inaugurated the meet as the chief guest.City Group Executive Director Shoyeb Md Asaduzzaman attended the event as special guest.
BAF Vice-President Anisur Rahman Dipu, General Secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, Tournament Co-coordinator Faruk Dhali and other federation’s officials were present in the opening ceremony.
A total of 142 participants (recurve division men’s 64 and women’s 26 and compound division men’s 31 and women’s 21) from 32 teams including districts sports associations, services and club archery are participating in the tournament.
