CHITTAGONG: Police arrested 20 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student front of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, from Laldighi Maidan area in the port city on Saturday, reports UNB.
Being informed that some Shibir men gathered in the area to carry out acts of sabotage at the Shaheed Minar, police conducted a drive there and arrested them around 8:30am, said Md Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station.
He said that they were interrogating the Shibir leaders and activists.
However, denying the allegation, Chittagong city (North) Shibir leader Nurul Amin said that police detained their leaders and activists while they were preparing to bring out a procession marking the Victory Day as part of their countrywide programme.
He also demanded immediate release of the arrestees.
