Lt Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd overpowered Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 3-1 goals in their Bangladesh Premier League match at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
Sheikh Jamal came into this match with supreme form with a track record of 7 unbeaten matches while Muktijoddha had been struggling for the last couple of matches and in this season of the meet saw them dropped to the eleventh position of the league table.
Jamal’s prolific international recruit Raphael Onwrebe was as lethal as ever. Along with the local gem Md Nurul Absar they demolished Muktis into fragments.
The men in yellow went on the offence since the start of the match with their star performer Solomon King Kanform penetrating twice into the goal post during the first 5 minutes of the match.
Though the endeavours were not successful, it showed hints of the proceedings of the day for Sheikh Jamal.
The attacking strategy soon paid off for Sheikh Jamal as the Nigerian international Raphael broke the deadlock in the 20th minute. Jamal midfielder Mohammad Javed Khan bulleted a long hauler at the Mukti post, though the goalie was able to deflect the shot, Raphael picked the deflection and placed the ball into the post to become the highest goal scorer of the season.
Then it was time for the Nurul Absar to shine bright with his aura. In the 37th minute Absar scored his first goal of the match with a header off a violent corner-shot from Khan Mohammed Tara.
It was as if Nurul Absar was destined for that goal as just a minute earlier, he earned that corner after a textbook perfect example of clever dribbling skills.
The Dhanmondi outfit finished the first-half of the match with a clear and dominating lead of 2-0.
It was evident that Sheikh Jamal would continue with the attacking strategy and make the most of the opportunity of facing dilapidated Muktis.
In the 53rd minute, Jamal attack spearhead Raphael nearly confirmed three points for his team as he scored the 234th goal of this season with assistance from the another Jamal brilliant foreign recruit Solomon King. Raphael intricately gave a speeding ball from King the direction as Mukti goalie was left confounded.
Muktijoddha tried to stage a comeback with substitute Towhidul Alam scoring their lone goal of the match on the 61st minute. He placed himself in the Jamal D-box as long pass by Monir Alam was placed past the Jamal goalie.
With this win Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd cemented their place in the second spot of the league table.
