Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad nominated Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, president of Rangpur city unit of the party, to contest for mayoral post in the upcoming Rangpur City Corporation election.

Mostafa will contest with ‘plough’, election symbol of the JP, in the city polls, said a press release of the party signed by its presidium member Sunil Shuvo Roy, also the press and political secretary of Ershad, on Saturday.

Declaring that Abdur Rouf Manik, former president of the city JP, is not even a general member of the party now, Sunil also said there is no scope of confusion in question of the JP candidate in the city election.

The party also gave final warning to joint secretary general of the party central committee Asif Shahriar, who expressed interest to be candidate in the election, about his role.

If Asif Shahriar disobeying decision of the party chairman becomes candidate and does not withdraw his candidacy in the polls, the party will expel him from all posts, the party warned.
