Man arrested with 50,000 Yaba tablets in Ctg

CHITTAGONG: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a drug peddler with 50,000 Yaba tablets from Sitakunda upazila in the district on Friday.

The arrestee is identified as Md Harunur Rashid, 43, son of Mafiz Ullah of Laximpur district.

RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Mimtanur Rahman said on information, a team of the elite force led by Squadron Leader Shafayet Jamil Fahim set a check-post at Uttar Bazar on Dhaka-Chittagong highway under the upazila at around 11:30am.

The RAB-men signaled a Dhaka-bound covered van in the area, he said.  

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the covered van driver Rashid tried to flee leaving the vehicle.

But, the RAB-men caught him after a chase. Later, the Yaba tablets kept tactfully inside the covered van were recovered, said the RAB officer.

In the primary interrogation, the arrestee admitted that he had been smuggling drugs in the name of transportation of goods since long, said Mimtanur.
