Cancer plaguing country

Experts at an international seminar on Thursday said that the number of cancer patients in Bangladesh is increasing day by day due to food adulteration and unawareness.

Around 250,000 people are being affected by different types of cancer every year, they informed.

The Oncology Club Bangladesh and SAARC Federation of Oncologists Bangladesh Chapter jointly organised the event tilted ‘Bangladesh Cancer Congress’ at Army Golf Club in the capital.

Prof Dr Muzibur Rahman of Radiation Oncology Department of National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital said that around 300,000 new cancer patients are being added with existing cancer patients each year referring research institute of Global Can’s statistics.

There are 15 lakh cancer patients in the country. Of them most of them are male, he added.  Chairman of oncology Club Bangladesh and president of cancer’s congress Dr MA Hai said that the number of cancer patients is increasing alarmingly in developing countries.

A good number of people are being infected with the fatal disease and most of them are out of treatment, he added.

Experts from Indian Medant Cancer Institute, University of Boglana of Italy, Tata Memorial Centers of India, National Universities of Singapore, National University of Cancer Institute of Singapore, National Health Services Trust joined the congress.

A total of 90 research papers have been attached at the seminar.
