Daily Sun Is an Art, Not a Science

Anniversaries are like birthdays: occasions to celebrate and to think ahead, usually among friends with whom one shares not only the past but also the future”— Zbigniew Brzezinski

Good tools make for good work. Even if a craftsman came up with the most ingenious design in the world, he could not complete it without the help of the right instruments. So is the case with journalism. If due attention is not paid to methods, journalists run the risk of not fulfilling on great ideas. The field of journalism and mass communication has always been interdisciplinary as it has borrowed both theory and methods from other contiguous fields, such as sociology, psychology, and political science. They work as institutional, but they also operate entrepreneurially. The daily sun is an art, not a science. Every situation is different. Every work is unique. They believe they have to be nimble, flexible, and able to move fluidly within the newspaper industry to bring everyone together. Their size lets them operate that way, and their readers find that refreshing.

Founded in Dhaka on 24th October in 2010, daily sun has grown at a steady pace. Thanks to the reputation they have built up until that point. Buoyed by its success, it has earned its desired reputation. Looking back, DS reflects: their timing was not perfect, and they wondered if we have made the wrong decision. However, with time and persistence their hard work has paid off. They are not sloanea or compartmentalised here. There is a lot of crossover and, as a result, they have been able to create this very open and empowering environment for their staff, which I think is pretty unique. Their people are empowered to make their own decisions including being involved in the news report management decisions which are often contained in a different department at other newspaper companies.

A Set of Qualified and Competent Journalists

Many of their senior people have worked at larger newspaper companies in their industry throughout their careers, but after experiencing these types of organisations, they have decided that they enjoy the less formalised organisational structure of their company. They are not a tiny company and they are not a huge company, and this newspaper really works for them in attracting, supporting, and retaining good people. They don’t live in the black and white; they tend to live in the grey. They are always analysing, they are always talking, and they are always working together to come up with new ideas to resolve issues quickly. Everyone here gets that this is an industry where no more solutions are ever the same, and they just have to keep working to see what fits best and just keep moving. Everyone knows everyone here.

Their senior people know everyone in the company and at their buildings, and that allows them to have a different, more personal type of relationship with the people. With larger newspaper companies, it is just not practical to know everyone, but they are able to do that and I think people really appreciate and enjoy that kind of environment they have, both for their staff and for all of their readers. In daily sun, commitment to citizens is an implied covenant with the audience and a foundation of the journalistic business model – journalism provided “true and impartial”. Commitment to citizens also means journalism should seek to present a representative picture of constituent groups in society. Ignoring certain citizens has the effect of disenfranchising them. The theory underlying the modern news industry has been the belief that credibility builds a broad and loyal audience and that economic success follows in turn. In that regard, the business people in a news organisation also must nurture – not exploit – their allegiance to the audience ahead of other considerations.

Technology may change but trust – when earned and nurtured – will endure.

A strong team demands solid partners. That’s why, DS takes pride in cultivating a network of newspaper management who know their way around the industry and are dedicated to upholding the company’s values. One of the things that gives them the advantage is they are very fluid, they are set up so they don’t have to push through a lot of internal layers for approvals, and that helps them turn paper quickly without getting bogged down. They operate differently than the big companies, they are not split up and they are not divided. Working as a team helps them deliver the best results for their readers. Sheep are known to respond to the voice of their shepherd. They understand that the shepherd will never bring them harm and that the provided guidance keeps them safe and moving forward to new pastures. There is not much thanks that a sheep can give besides gathering close to their shepherd. And, in essence, this is the point of a newspaper Anniversary, for the congregation to gather and draw close, sharing its love the best way they know how.

Ds Anniversary Marks the Special Moment

A newspaper‘s anniversary is important because it not only recognises a newspaper’s years of service, but also celebrates the experience, growth and progress of a newspaper under a particular editor’s administration. Their editor and leaders need the love, encouragement, and inspiration that can come from these celebrations. It is right for me to think this way about all of them, because they hold me in their heart. The DS Anniversary marks that special moment when the congregation sets aside time to celebrate both the service and sacrifice of its shepherd leader. In DS, journalists rely on a professional discipline for verifying information.

A Truly Great English Newspaper Is Daily Sun

Life, for us, has been incredibly interesting, painful and joyful in so many different ways. Throughout our lives, we are fortunate to meet many different individuals of powerful persuasion, many of whom are males and females.  We are blessed to meet a truly GREAT English Newspaper, such as, daily sun. It is easy to make a buck. It is a lot tougher to make a difference. I can tell you that DS has absolutely made a difference in so many ways. I have learned so much from them over the years of my life, that it is inconceivable to tell it all. The DS is the very definition of everything that most of us would like to become: it has dignity, intelligence, grace, wisdom, poise, kindness, strength, and patience. It has exhibited all of these attributes not only towards their readers. DS never tires up. I want to personally thank DS for what they have done for me and countless others.  It is very strong-willed and passionate about things they believe in, especially on our glorious Liberation War of 1971 and its true spirits. They have taught us values of Bangladesh’s creation in 1971. When I went to see the DS Editor Mr. Enamul Hoque Chowdhury and his team, they were all so gracious and welcoming. I was grateful and happy to be a part of this big family. They never made me feel like an outsider. They have taught me patience and positivism. I remember their exemplary characters. I am totally supported by them when I send any article for publication in their esteemed Daily. Their kind hearts and gentle spirits will leave lasting memories. They are giving us the best and expected the best from us. May light perpetually shine upon the DS journalists. Thank them all so much for the gift of their friendship.

It is a great comfort to me.

Daily Sun Is Proud to Be Celebrating Its 8th Year
Good news! Daily sun is proud to be celebrating its 8th year of being a part of the lives of their families. It is a great honour of this momentous event for their company. Each anniversary should be more special and significant than the previous one. Anniversaries remind us of our special bonds and all those special moments that we have shared.  A successful anniversary is like a canary in the mine for the rest of the year. On our paper anniversary, I write words from my soul. Life is beautiful with Daily Sun, and joyfully whole. Let’s celebrate our 8th milestone in our hearts and on the dance floor. My more than two years together with DS have been truly golden. Our time with daily sun has treated us well. Let’s spend some more together. Each anniversary is a chance for us to celebrate the time that we have been blessed to have together. Happy anniversary! We are bound today by what bound us 8 years ago, the same loyalties, traditions, and beliefs. We wish to remember what Revecca Campbell once said, “Bless the thing that broke you down and cracked you open, because the world needs you open.” We thank DS journalists all so much for sharing this wonderful occasion with us. Happy 8th Anniversary of daily sun! And ciao!
