Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said that Bangladesh will attain success in alleviating poverty by 2024.
The minister came up with the assertion while addressing an international seminar titled ‘Towards Sustainable Development: Lessons from MDGs and Pathway for SDGs’ as the chief guest at a hotel in New York of the USA on Tuesday, said a press release issued by Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations (UN.)
International think tank ‘The Institute for Policy, Advocacy and Governance (IPAG) organised the seminar.
UNDP Bureau of Policy and Programme support director and UN under secretary general Magdy Martinez Soliman also spoke on the occasion.
In his speech, AMA Muhith said, “We have achieved most of the goals of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) due to our strong will power," he said.
Muhith also said Bangladesh has been working to achieve the goals of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) using the experience gathered from the implementation of MDG.
“SDG is totally different. We have good experience which will lead us to success. What is important for us is strong commitment. We are working to attain SDG goals with the inter-ministries coordination,” he said.
Masud Bin Momen, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York and the Ambassador of Bangladesh to El Salvador, among other Bangladeshi delegation, was present at the programme.
