Maulana Mohiuddin Khan passes away

Noted religious scholar and writer Maulana Muhiuddin Khan has passed away on Saturday evening in a Dhaka hospital.

 

The popular exegete of the Islamic scripture Quran, who edited and published the monthly Medina  for two decades, died at 6:10 p.m. today, his family said. He was 85.

 

Family sources said, since last month he was admitted in a number of hospitals with diabetes, kidney ailment and respiratory infection. He was in the Capital's Lab Aid Hospital in his final hours.

 

Condolences are already pouring in for the religious leader via social media.

 

Maulana Mohiuddin's contribution to religious literature ranges from theological works in Arabic, Persian and Urdu, Bengali language books on religious practices to translation of Quranic exegesis.

 

Among other works, Maulana Mohiuddin trans-created a Bengali version of famous Quranic exegesis Ma'ariful Qur'an by Mufti Muhammad Shafi. He was also the leader of a political party named Jamiah Ulama E Islam or the Party of the Islamic Scholars.
