Court upholds Maya’s 13 year jail sentence in corruption case

Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today upheld the verdict that sentenced Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya for 13-year jail in a corruption case.

 

The Appellate Division also scrapped the review plea of the case on Sunday.

 

A four-member bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order following a review petition filed by the lawyer of the plaintiff.

 

It can be here mentioned that on February 14 in 2008, the Special Judge Court sentenced 13 years jail to Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya in a corruption case filed by ACC.  The court also fined him Tk five crore and confiscated property of Tk six crore.

 

Maya filed an appeal with the High Court challenging the special court`s verdict on May 25, 2009.

 

On October 27 in 2010, a bench of High Court rejected the special court verdict.

 

On June 13 in 2007, ACC filed the case against Maya with Sutrapur police station on charge of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk29 lakh and concealing information about it.
