Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suspended all flights from Dhaka to Riyadh until 17 October following the closure of King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, according to a statement issued by the national flag carrier on Monday.
Biman said it would announce further decisions and updated flight schedules in due course. It also apologised for the temporary inconvenience caused to passengers and sought their patience and cooperation.
The suspension comes amid wider disruption to flights between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. A total of 51 flights operated by different airlines on routes connecting Dhaka with Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam had been suspended or cancelled by Monday, affecting 5,418 passengers, according to Squadron Leader Sakib of the Security and Flight Management Wing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Of the affected flights, 12 were direct services to Saudi Arabia and 39 were transit flights.
Passengers travelling on affected routes have been advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates before heading to the airport.
