Musician Ibrar Tipu’s condition is critical

Popular Bangladeshi composer and music director Ibrar Tipu has been battling cancer for nearly two years while undergoing treatment in the United States. His health condition has raised deep concern among colleagues and well-wishers, with lyricist Kabir Bakul describing him as fighting for his life.
Tipu recently underwent brain surgery and, after spending an extended period in hospital, has returned home in the United States, Kabir Bakul said in a Facebook post.
Sharing an update on the musician’s condition, Bakul revealed that Tipu had been struggling with kidney cancer for almost two years. He also expressed concern over the treatment he had received during his hospital stay.
According to Bakul, Tipu’s wife, singer Bindu Kona, told him that the family had brought the music director home because they felt he was not receiving proper treatment at the hospital.
Bakul also shared that he had recently spoken to Tipu through a video call arranged by his wife, Dinat Jahan Munni. He last met Tipu in person during Eid-ul-Fitr earlier this year, when the ailing musician visited his home in New York.
Recalling the meeting and their recent conversation, Bakul expressed his helplessness at being far away during his friend’s difficult time. Despite his illness, Tipu retained the familiar warmth in his face and eyes, he noted.
Bakul also highlighted Tipu’s significant contribution to Bangladesh’s music industry. Over the years, the composer and music director has created music for numerous popular songs, including “Tumi Amar Ghum, Tobu Tomay Niye Shopno Dekhi Na,” “O Prithibi Ebar Eshe Bangladesh Nao Chine” and “Besh Besh Besh, Shabas Bangladesh.”
Deeply moved by his colleague’s condition, Kabir Bakul prayed for Tipu’s recovery and urged everyone to keep the musician in their prayers.
