Clay bank gift from July martyr’s sister moves Fakhrul to tears

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir broke down in tears during an election rally in Thakurgaon after receiving a clay bank and a few chicken eggs from the sister of July martyr Shaheed Al Mamun.
The emotional moment unfolded in the district’s Mohammadpur union where Mamun’s sister came onto the stage while Fakhrul was addressing the gathering. Remembering her brother, she handed him a clay bank containing her savings and several eggs. “My brother loved the BNP. Please accept this small gift for the election,” she said.
Overwhelmed, Fakhrul said, “This girl has given the money she saved in her clay bank for the election. May Allah accept her heartfelt plea! Please pray for the salvation of the soul of Al Mamun and all other July martyrs.”
Recalling his 35-year political journey, Fakhrul told the crowd that he was not a new face and had been with the people since 1991. “When I first entered politics, did I even have grey hair? I was a young man then,” he said.

Emphasising personal integrity, he further said that he had never taken money from people, instead he had to sell his father’s land and business to remain in politics.
Calling the upcoming polls likely to be his last, Fakhrul appealed directly to voters, asking whether he could not expect their support for the party’s electoral symbol “Sheaf of Paddy”.
Addressing farmers during the roadshow, he promised that agricultural loans of up to Tk10,000 would be waived along with interest if the party came to power.
Speaking to women, he criticised NGO loan practices and said he would ensure that mothers were no longer harassed over instalments and interest, which he pledged to cover.
Fakhrul also criticised rival parties and rejected claims that voting for a particular symbol would guarantee paradise. “Voting alone will not take anyone to heaven. To reach paradise, one must follow Allah’s commands and live honestly,” he said.
Referring to alleged conspiracies to derail the polls, he said the election could not be stopped this time as people had awakened, and urged voters to protect polling centres to prevent any mischief.
