Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday voiced deep concern over the attempt to gun down an Italian citizen and urged the government to track down the attackers shunning the politics of blame game.
BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon said another Italian citizen has come under terrorist attack this time in Dinajpur. Denouncing the incident strongly he also said his party is anxious deeply over such terrorist acts, UNB reports.
Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he further said, “We demand the government arrest the real offenders and mete out exemplary punishment without buying time and indulging in blame game.”
Italian citizen Piyara Samio, 50, came under gun attack by unknown miscreants at Mirzapur BRTC bus stand in Dinajpur town on Wednesday morning, leaving him injured.
Earlier on September 28, another Italia citizen Cesare Tavella, 50, was shot dead in the capital’s Gulshan area. Barely a week into Tavella’s murder, Japanese national Hoshi Kunio was gunned down in Rangpur on October 3.
Ripon said Bangladesh’s image has already been badly dented following the murders and Tavella and the Japanese citizen. “Another attack made on a foreigner is really worrisome. We expect the government to take proper steps to ensure security of the country’s people and foreign nationals.”
About the upcoming municipality polls, the BNP leader said the government is bringing frequent changes in local government acts to ensure the victory of the ruling party candidates.
He urged the government to refrain from making evil designs for manipulating the election results. “Stop arresting BNP leaders and activists and repression on them and create a level-playing field to test your popularity.”
