Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a telephone call today congratulated Opposition Leader of Myanmar and chairman of National League for Democracy (NDL) Aung San Suu Kyi for her party's landslide victory in the recent general election held in that country.
Sheikh Hasina made the telephone call from her Gonobhaban residence at 4.25 pm, PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said. The prime minister congratulated Suu Kyi on her own behalf, her government, her party, people of Bangladesh, her family and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, press secretary said.
"It's the recognition of your long sacrifice and sufferings," Sheikh Hasina told Suu Kyi. Suu Kyi said she is still struggling for democracy in her country. In reply Sheikh Hasina said she is also struggling for making democracy sustainable in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina told the Myanmar leader that her government would have all support on Suu Kyi.
Suu Kyi extended her thanks to the Prime Minister for her support.
