The High Court on Tuesday directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to close two facebook accounts for stating ‘defamatory’ remark before Prophet Muhammad (SM)’s name.
The BTRC authorities were asked to dispose the direction within 30 days.
A HC division bench compraised with Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam issued the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Arifur Rahman, a reporter of Daily Al Ihsan, seeking directives to close the accounts.
Petitioner’s lawyer Syeda Sabina Ahmed Moli submitted that the facebook accounts hurt the petitioner’s religious sentiment but the BTRC authority failed to take any action on the matter.
Earlier the petitioner also informed about it to BTRC by an application, she said.
The lawyer also informed that the Shahjahanpur police station’s officer-in-charge refused to record any case over the matter.
