Bangladeshi born actor Mithun Chakraborty, informally referred to as Mithun Da, has appeared in more than 250 hindi cinemas, but has rarely starred in any Dhallywood movies. Putting these statistics behind, Mithun has reportedly agreed to sign a film ‘Jonmovumi’ jointly directed by Zakir and Rashid Polash.
This won't be an exaggeration if we say that he is equally popular both in India and Bangladesh.
However, the shooting of the film will take place in Bangladesh and India’s Bangalore. Reports suggest that the first part of shooting will kick off in December this year.
Mithun himself confirmed the authenticity of this news. “I read the script and liked it immediately. After going through the whole screenplay, I made my decision to say yes. The story of the film encircles many historical events happened in Bangladesh around 1945-1971. Overall, the script of this film struck as something different to me. I had already planned to work in Bangladesh, this film offer just got to me in right time. I’m delightful working here in Bangladeshi film platform in such an incredible script,” said Mithun, the three times winner of Indian National Film Awards.
The veteran actor has acted in over 350 films including Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Telugu and Punjabi pictures.
Under the stage name of Mithun Chakraborty, he made his debut in 1976 in Bengali director Mrinal Sen’s ‘Mrigaya’ and holds the rare honour of having won the National Award for Best Actor for his debut performance. The Bengali language film ‘Tahader Kotha’ (1992), directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, fetched Mithun Chakrabaorty a second National Award. Mithun Chakraborty received his third National Award in 1998, winning Best Supporting Actor for ‘Swami Vivekananda’.
It should be mention here that Mithun Chakraborty was born in Bangladesh’s Barisal district.
