A court on Sunday granted seven days remand of BCL leader Sen Sumon in a case of killing a person and left an expecting mother and her baby inside the womb wounded by bullets.
Sen Sumon, vice-president of Magura district unit Chhatra League, was arrested from the city’s Kalyanpur area on August 2.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Farha Mahmud passed the order when Imamul Haque, investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a 10-day remand.
Shakil Ahmed, lawyer of Sumon, filed a petition for his bail before the court on Sunday.
Earlier, a seven-month expecting mother, Nazma Begum, 30, her uncle-in-law Momin Bhuiyan, 65, and another man, Miraz, 30, suffered bullet injuries as they were caught in the line of fire during a clash between two groups of Jubo League over establishing supremacy at Doarpara in Magura sadar upazila on the evening of July 23.
They were taken to Sadar Hospital where Nazma gave birth to a baby through caesarean section that night. It was found after the birth that the newborn also suffered bullet wounds while in the womb.
Momin Bhuiyan succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on July 25.
Later, Nazma’s baby was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital on July 25.
