Legendary singer Farida Yasmin passed away at BIRDEM Hospital in the capital on Saturday evening. She was 74. She breathed her last around 6 pm.
Singer Agun, son of Farida’s sister Nilufar Yasmin, said his aunt had been under going treatment for kidney, blood pressure and some other old-age complications over two weeks at the hospital.
The singer’s mortal remains will be brought to her Segunbagicha residence on Sunday morning.
Fairda, also the elder sister of another popular singer Sabina Yasmin, is survived by husband Kazi Anwar Hossain and two sons.
Born in 1941, Farida emerged as a singer in 1957 through radio. In the 60s, she earned huge popularity as a playback singer.
In a condolence message, she said the death of Farida Yasmin caused an irreparable loss to the country’s musical arena.
