Victim rescued; 2 ‘kidnappers’ held in city

Plain-clothes police arrested two alleged kidnappers and rescued a victim from Ramna area of the city on Wednesday morning, UNB reports.

 

The rescued victim was identified as Tareque, son of Jibon Miah while the arrestees are Masud Rana and Firoz.

 

Briefing reporters at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre, Joint Commissioner (Detective Branch) Monirul Islam said Jibon Miah lodged a complaint with the DB that miscreants kidnapped his son and demanded Tk 10 lakh over phone as ransom.

 

Besides, Masud Rana, victim’s cousin, informed Jibon over phone that Tareque would be released if the ransom money was handed over to him, the DB official said.

 

Following the allegation, a DB team conducted a raid on a garage at Mirbagh and rescued Tareque. They also arrested two kidnappers from the spot while their accomplices managed to flee.

 

Tareque came to Dhaka from Brahmanbaria on July 25. He was kidnapped from Hatirjheel area on the night of July 26.

 

A case was filed with Ramna Police Station in this connection.
