Finance Minister AMA Muhith expressed his satisfaction over the country’s graduation from low income status to lower middle income nation (LMIC), meeting the World Bank's requirements.

“The dignity of Bangladesh has increased due to the World Bank certificate, so we should be happy now,” said the Finance Minister while talking to reporters after a meeting with Bhutanese Finance Minister Lyonpo Namgay Dorji at the ministry, reports UNB.

The UN will declare final report over the status and it will take at least 3/4 years. Until publishing BDP report, Bangladesh will continue to get the benefits of LDC (least developed country), said the finance minister.

The finance minister said “We import goods worth Tk 33 million from Bhutan and export goods worth Tk 2 million and we hope that the quantity of export will be increased in future. The gap between export and import is high for lack of communication.”

Muhith said a discussion was held to import hydroelectricity from Bhutan.
