After noticing he was running low on socks, a man decided to ask his girlfriend whether she'd put them in the laundry. He wasn't at all prepared for the simple question to cause an argument between them.
But it turned out the woman had been hiding something from him for a few months, and when confronted about it, she broke down in tears. And now the man has turned to the internet for advice after being "weirded out" by the truth.
The unnamed man, 28, revealed all in a post on Reddit's Relationship Advice forum.
He begins by saying that he and his 26-year-old girlfriend hadn't been together very long, but their relationship had gotten serious pretty fast and they recently moved in together.
Since moving in, she's taken ownership of the laundry and doesn't ever let him help. At first he thought it was "sweet" that she wanted to do it all, however he now knows there was a very different reason for her doing the household chore.
While taking out the bin, the man claims to have discovered a pair of his socks in a bag, covered in what "looked like poop".
He was baffled, because the couple don't have any pets or kids, and he couldn't understand how it would have happened.
But after confronting his partner, she admitted that she prefers to use socks to wipe her bum instead of toilet paper.
He said: "I flat out asked her if it was a fetish. It's not a fetish.
"She confessed to using the socks after going to the bathroom. I found out the reason she always does the laundry is because she was hiding the fact that she uses socks to wipe with, primarily her own.
"She admitted she has done this for a long time. Her reasoning, as best I can understand, is that because she is a germaphobe (her word) she is afraid toilet paper will tear and is afraid of getting her hands messy in any way."
He added: "She uses socks because it covers her entire hand. After she's done with them she throws them away. She used mine because she didn't have any other socks.
"I hope we can laugh about this later. I'm trying to find the humour in it now, but I'm still weirded out."
