Child friendly eye care unit has formally been inaugurated in Cox’s Bazar for the first time. It will provide eye care services for the children living in this coastal belt.
Orbis International Bangladesh provided technical support to set up this unit with the financial support from Qatar Fund For Development.
Bob Ranck, President and Chief Executive Officer of Orbis International inaugurated the unit at Baitush Sharaf Hospital in Cox’s Bazar on February 13 (Wednesday).
Among others, Dr. Mohammed Nurul Alam, Assistant Professor, Pediatric from Cox’s Bazar Medical College; MM Sirajul Islam, General Secretary and Md. Kamal Uddin, Joint Secretary of Cox’s Bazar Baitush Sharaf Hospital (CBBSH); Dr. Munir Ahmed, Country Director; Mohammed Alauddin, Director of Programs, Md. Iqbal Hossain, Project Manager, Md. Parvez Hossain & Nelufa Iasmin, Project Coordinator from Orbis International Bangladesh and representatives from CBBSH were present in the inaugural ceremony.
Bob Ranck visited the pediatric eye care unit which contained a play zone in the OPD, vision room, refraction room, examination room, consultation room, pediatric ward, counseling room, etc.
Bob Ranck termed this initiative a milestone for CBBSH as well as for Orbis in Bangladesh. As there were no such ervices for the children of this area, this unit can now contribute to reduce and prevent childhood blindness.
Earlier, the Orbis boss visited a vision center (primary eye care center) at Ukhia Upazila Health Complex and opened a new eye screening site for FDMNs at camp 4, Kutupalong.
