Upazila polls: CEC urges election officials to act neutrally

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Thursday asked the election officials to conduct the upcoming upazila elections neutrally.

“As employees of the republic, we should keep in mind that we are accountable to the republic and the constitution as well as not responsible to any political party or person,” he said.

The CEC came up with the remarks at a training programme of returning and assistant returning officers ahead of the upazila elections at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area.

He also asked the election officials to perform their duties as per the constitution.

“The voters always want us to present them a free, fair and acceptable election. Holding a free, fair and credible election is fully depending on your performance,” said the CEC.

He also requested them to refrain from showing any weakness towards anyone.

The CEC also requested all to remain alert so that no irregularities can take place anywhere.
