Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 28 Rohingyas including seven children while being trafficked to Malaysia through waterway at Teknaf upazila in the district on early Friday.
BGB men also arrested two human traffickers identified as Muhibullah, 20, and Humayun, 18, both hailed from the Teknaf upazila.
Teknaf-2 BGB Commanding Officer Asadud Zaman Chowdhury said on information of gathering the Rohingya people to be trafficked to Malaysia from Gholachar and Noakhali areas under the upazila, they conducted two separate drives at the spots around 4:30am.
Eleven Rohingyas including three children were rescued from the Gholachar area, he said, adding that remaining 17 other Rohingyas including four children were also rescued from the Noakhali area.
The human traffickers were also arrested during the drives from the Gholachar and Noakhali areas, he said.
The rescued Rohingyas were residents of several refugee camps at Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas, Asadud informed.
The arrestees were handed over to the police stations concerned to take legal action in this connection, he said.
Drives were going on to nab other accomplices of the arrestees, the BGB commanding officer added.
