Seven people, including six members of a family, were killed as a truck rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila early Wednesday, police said.
The tragic accident took place in Ratanpur area on Lakshmipur-Chandraganj highway around 5:00am, said Shahjahan Khan, inspector of Chandraganj Highway Police.The family members were heading towards Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital to see another member of the family, Nadin Mahmud, 21, who was stabbed by miscreants on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Nadin’s father Shah Alam, 45, mother Nasima Akhter, 38, grandmother Shamsunnahar, 60, aunt Rokeya Begum, 29, and her son Rubel, 17 , grandchild Amit,8, all hailing from Noakhali’s Begumganj and the CNG-run vehicle driver Nuru, 38.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to the local hospital morgue for post-mortem.
The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police could not arrest anyone in this regard.
