Bashundhara Kings obliterated Dhaka Abahani Limited by 3-0 goals in their first home game of Bangladesh Premier League 2018-2019 season at Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari on Wednesday.
Bashundhara Kings ace defender Nasir Uddin Chowdhury gave Bashundhara the lead as Daniel Colindres and Motin Mia advanced their lead to the final scoreline of 3-0 goals.Inaugurating Bangladesh Premier League at Sheikh Kamal Stadium, State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Rasel MP, hoped that Bashundhara Kings adopting Nilphamari as the home venue will go a long way in promoting domestic football. Bashundhara Kings President Imrul Hasan and Bangladesh Football Federation President Kazi Salahuddin were also present during the inauguration ceremony.
Bashundhara Kings went into the offence early in the match keeping true to their head coach Oscar Bruzon’s strategy.
Defending Champions of the league soon had enough and attempted to break through as Abahani forward Rubel Miya attempted a stunner from the right flank off a cross from their prized Haitian recruit Kervens Belfort on the 13th minute of the match.
Bashundhara Kings went on counter-attack but missed a screamer as their ace local forward Almagir Kabir Rana bulleted a full-paced shot at Abahani goalie some five yards from the bar. Motin Mia’s low pass from the right flank was dispatched straight at the goalie by Rana.
Bashundhara Kings continued to dominate the field but could not materialise the chances as their forward Motin Miah missed another sensational opportunity to take the lead as he couldn’t connect while sliding in an attempt to connect a fast moving pass from Masuk Miah Zony.
Bashundhara World Cupper Daniel Colindres swung into action coming in from the right flank and overtaking three Abahani defenders and placed a sensational swinging shot which slammed right at the bar.Fortune favoured the brave as Bashundhara had a stroke of luck with Abahani forward Sunday Chizoba missed a penalty on the 41st minute. Abahani’s long hauler of a throw resulted in a penalty as Jorge Gotor was found guilty of handling the ball. After being awarded a penalty, Abahani’s Sunday Choziba blasted an ill-directed shot out of the bar. This missed penalty swinged the momentum for Bashundhara for good.
Now with luck on their side, Bashundhara Kings burst into the match with unmatched zeal, on the 2nd minute of the added time, Colindres’ free-kick from danger zone was headed into the post by Nasir Uddin Chowdhury.
Moments into the second-half, a controversial off-side ruling from referee saw a brilliant goal from Marcos Vinicius being snatched the legitimacy. Marcos brilliantly back flipped the ball to the net but referee decided it was an off-side despite wild protests from Bashundhara camp.
Bashundhara Kings didn’t let the controversy dampen their spirits as they advanced their lead on the 59th minute of the match; Motin Miah doubled their lead with a brilliant right footed angular shot from the right wing to take Bashundhara Kings to 2-0.
Abahani in their attempt to stem the flow tried their fate with going to the offence without much luck. On the 53rd minute of the match, Belfort missed a cake of an opportunity as he blasted a free-kick from danger-zone into the gallery.
On the 68th minute second half, Bashundhara prized recruit Colindres hammered the final keel on Abahani’s coffin as Colindres dribbled across from left to right in the Abahani’s D-box and found a 1:1 with the goalie and thrusted a swinging ball into the post.
The despair continued for Abahani couldn’t use goal-line maelee.
Besides, foreign recruit Ballo Famousa’s brilliant hat-trick helped Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra blank Lt Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd by 3-0 goals in their second match at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj on Wednesday.
