Convener of Garments Sramik Somonnoy Parishad Shajahan Khan has thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for resolving the recent labour unrest arising from ‘anomaly’ in the wage structure.

He also thanked newly appointed Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and other persons concerned for finding a solution. He was addressing a press conference at Swadhinata Hall in the capital on Thursday.

Shajahan Khan also called upon the authorities concerned to be careful so that no innocent workers are subjected to harassment. He demanded release of the innocent garment workers from jail.

The former shipping minister urged the government to pay compensation to the family member of the worker who was killed during the unrest.

He recalled that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had increased wages for garment workers for three times over the last 10 years.

Owners of the factories and trade bodies must play a due role for a congenial atmosphere in the RMG sector, he said.
