The signal relay room of Kamalapur Railway Station caught fire on Wednesday evening.
Officer-in-charge of Dhaka Government Railway Police (GRP) Station Yasin Faruk said the fire originated at the locked room on the first floor of the station complex around 6:30pm.
Bangladesh Railway officials and members of GRP and Railway Nirapatta Bahini doused the fire within minutes using fire extinguishers after unlocking the room, he said, adding that some wires were burned down in the fire.
Shariful Alam, senior information office of the Railways Ministry, said the fire affected the signaling system of the station.
Train departure and arrival from and at the station were being controlled manually, he said, adding that the digital system will return to normalcy by Wednesday morning.
Shariful also said Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan visited the station after the fire incident.
