Dhaka spinner Aliss reported for suspect action

Allis Islam

Dhaka Dynamites off spinner Allis Islam has been reported by the umpires for illegal bowling action, Bangladesh Premier League officials confirmed on Sunday.

‘’He has been reported by the umpires,’’ BPL technical committee chairman Jalal Yunus told daily sun when his attention was drawn to the issue after Rangpur Riders raised question about Aliss’ legitimacy.

‘’We are waiting for the report of the match referee as he will give a guide line for him there before deciding about his immediate future,’’ he added.

According to the official, though Aliss is reported he will not be barred from playing for 21 days. But the rule is flexible thus can be changed at any time as there are several instances of such decisions in BPL.

Defending champions Rangpur Riders raised question over unheralded off spinner Aliss Islam’s bowling action as they believe his arm bends more than 15 degrees when he bowls the doosra.

Aliss became the first bowler in BPL history at earn a hat-trick when he wrecked through Riders batting order to help the team earn a two-run victory over Riders at Mirpur on Sunday.

Riders in an email stated that Aliss’ name was in the suspected bowling action list of First Division cricketers and though they were informed that his action was cleared they still had doubts over his legitimacy.

‘’First of all, we would like to acknowledge Dhaka Dynamites performance against Rangpur Riders in the first match of 11th January 2019. It was a great game of cricket and Dhaka Dynamites played very well to come out as the winner. Regardless we would like to draw your attention towards Dhaka Dynamites Off-Spin Bowler Al Islam on the following points,’’ Riders was quoted in the email sent after the match.

‘’We were informed 4 days earlier that out of draft player can be included in Teams and Al Islam was included in Dhaka Dynamites squad in that regard. Although we did not have any official problem regarding his inclusion but it is to be mentioned that his name is in the suspected bowling action list from the first division of Dhaka League. We have been told that his action was reviewed but looking at his bowling action in todays match it seems that his action has not yet been rectified and it seem his arm bends more than the tolerance limit of 15 degree while he is bowling, especially when he is bowling his “Dusra” deliveries,’’ it added.

Meanwhile Aliss claimed that he is confident that he does not have any flaws in his bowling action after the match during the post match press conference while countering the sceptics about the legitimacy of his action.

‘’No, it (bowling action) didn’t come under controversy ever. However, everybody was pondering. No, actually it isn’t questionable at all,’’ defended Aliss.
