At least 15 people were injured as Awami League supporters allegedly attacked the electioneering of BNP candidate for Chandpur-3 constituency Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik at Madrasa Road in Chandpur on Tuesday.
Organising secretary of Juba Dal district unit, Faisal Ahmed, alleged that an attack with sharp weapons was carried out from a procession of Awami League when Farid Ahmed along with his supporters was electioneering on Madrasa road around 12:30 pm.
During the attack at least 15 BNP supporters sustained injuries while the attackers also torn apart posters and banners in presence of the law enforcers, he said.
Officer-in-charge of Chandpur Model Police Station Md Nasim said they did not receive any complaint of such attack.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of district Awami League Abu Noim Patowari said, "No ruling party men were involved in the attack rather it was caused by the internal conflict in BNP."
A total of 14 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the district following the upcoming general election.
A total of 35 candidates of different political parties including BNP, AL are contesting in the polls in 5 constituencies in the district.
The district election office sources said a total of 18,05,926 voters are expected to practice their voting power on December 30.
