A man allegedly hanged himself after killing his wife and two children following a family dispute in Rampur union under Chandpur Sadar upazila on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Mainuddin, 35, his wife Fatema Begum, 24, their five-year-old daughter Mithila and one-year-old son Siam.Mainuddin gave a post on Facebook minutes before he committed suicide that he is going to take his own life, family sources said.
On information, police recovered the bodies, but could not ascertain the reason behind the incident.
There ensued a feud between the couple after Fatema lost a gold earring a few days ago, said Mainuddin’s mother Firoza Begum.
Mainuddin used to work at a bakery in Chattogram. From there he returned home on Sunday night and brought back Fatema who had gone to her father’s house in Dakkhin upazila of Chandpur after a quarrel.
According to Firoza Begum, the couple had another fight on the night.
It was around 4:00am when Mainuddin’s Malaysian expatriate elder brother Jasim Uddin informed Firoza Begum over phone that Mainuddin had uploaded a video on hisFacebook account announcing that he was going to commit suicide.
Jasim asked her mother to check them at their room.
In the early hours of Monday, the two children were found dead under a quilt while Fatema was found to be fastened with a pole in the pond. Mainul was found hanging with the ceiling of the room.
Locals suspected that Fatema was poisoned to death and their children were choked. On information, Chandpur superintendent of police (SP) Jihadul Kabir visited the spot. The bodies were sent to Chandpur Government General Hospital for post-mortem, police said.
Chandpur Model police station officer-in-charge Md Nasir Uddin said that police would conduct an investigation in this regard.
