Old Horse Brothers Union Club are the first team to reach the semifinals of the 13-team Walton Independence Cup Football Tournament 2018 upsetting Group A champions Arambagh KS by 4-3 goals in tie-breaker at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Tuesday evening.
The first quarterfinal between two teams was locked in 3-3 goals in the stipulated 90-minute time and also in the 30-minute extra session.
In the scheduled time, Rabiul struck twice in the 14th and 54th minute and Paul Emile netted the other goal in the 86th minute for the Motijheel outfit, Arambagh KS, while Brazilian booter Leonardo Vieira, Rabbi and Jack Daniels scored one each for the Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union in the 43rd, 65th and 78th minute respectively.
Daniels of Brothers Union got the marching order in the 78th minute while Nipu of Arambagh KS received red card in the 118th minute.
In the remaining quarterfinals, Group B champions Chattogram Abahani will face Sheikh Russel on Wednesday (Dec 12), Group C champions Dhaka Abahani will play Saif SC on Thursday (Dec 13) while Group D champions Bashundhara Kings will meet Rahmatganj MFS on Friday (Dec 14), all at 4:30 pm.
