12-day photography exhibition on Rohingya exodus to begin in city Monday

A 12-day photography exhibition titled ‘Exodus’ by internationally acclaimed photographer Patrick Brown will begin at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka on Monday.

Unicef Bangladesh Goodwill Ambassador and cricket icon Shakib Al Hassan and Unicef Bangladesh Representative Edouard Beigbeder will jointly inaugurate the exhibition at 3:30 pm.

The exhibition, to be hosted by Unicef Bangladesh and Alliance Française de Dhaka, will remain open till December 22.

It will remain open on Monday-Thursday from 3pm to 9pm while Friday and Saturday from 9am to 12 noon and 5pm to 8pm and the exhibition will remain closed on Sunday.

The exhibition will showcase a collection of photographs taken by Patrick Brown during the last one year portraying the initial influx, the resilience of the Rohingyas, the host community, emergency mitigation measures and international support to the Rohingya people, said a press release on Friday.

More than a year ago, a startled international community watched a dramatic humanitarian crisis unfold on the north-eastern edge of the Bay of Bengal, Alliance Française de Dhaka said.

In a matter of weeks, hundreds of thousands of desperate and terrorised people — 60 percent of them children — poured across the border from Myanmar into Bangladesh, bringing with them accounts of the unspeakable violence and brutality that had forced them to flee, it said.

Unicef has been on the ground in southern Bangladesh since the onset of the crisis as part of a coalition of national and international agencies, said Alliance Française de Dhaka.

Patrick Brown is the recipient of numerous international awards, including the 3P Photographer Award, World Press Award, Picture of The Year Award, New York Photographic Book Award, to name a few.

His works have graced the pages of prestigious publications such as The New Yorker, TIME, Newsweek, Vanity Fair, National Geographic and International Herald Tribune.
